| About Bike Bay |
 |
| BikeBay has been set up to facilitate the sale of used bikes to the individual cyclist.
The business has a showroom based in Sandton, Gauteng, and the electronic listing service will be mailed out on a national basis.
The showroom will focus on high end bikes to the discerning cyclist, (A kind of “Investment Cars” for bikes) and sales through it will include a bike fitting session and a full inspection. |
 |
 |
| Showroom sales will be on a consignment basis, and I will charge a commission of 10% or R500, (whichever is the greater).
There is no upfront charge, but bikes taken back before they are sold will attract a R200 exit fee to cover my advertising expenses.
Since I have over 20 years of active cycling experience I will be able to offer the potential purchaser professional advice on the best bike for their needs
and will also be able to assist with fitting different stems and seat posts to achieve a good bike fit.
There will be no upfront charge for displaying bikes in the showroom but they are expected to be handed over in a clean and presentable condition.
The seller will need to decide the price they would like to offer their bikes for themselves, although I will be able to offer guidelines in this regard.
I will also display and sell high end group sets, frames and wheels on request. |
 |
 |
| For those not able to use the showroom I will also be offering to publish their adverts on the BikeBay website.
This is a kind of electronic Autotrader for bikes and includes the facility of displaying a photo on the web site for no additional charge. |
| The main advantage of using the BikeBay website advert as opposed to a free service such as Junkmail is that the bikes will be logically sorted by type, size, brand and price range and can include a photograph.
This will enable potential buyers to find their ideal purchase quickly and easily. |
| The charge for an e-mail For Sale listing is R100 per client. Although the listing will automatically cease after 90 days,
there will be no charge for re-submitting the item.
The automatic removal from the list is merely to avoid advertising items that have already been sold. |
| BikeBay will not play any role in the actual sale transaction of items listed but not sold through the showroom.
For these bikes / items the transaction will be directly between the seller and buyer. |

| Brett has been an active cyclist for the last 20 years and is the veteran of many Comrades marathons, Duzi's, Ironman triathlons,
Ultraman Series as well three Cape Epics (a multiday mountain bike event) |
Brett managed to win his age group in Master Blaster main event in 2009 as well as the ‘hot spot”.
He has also just completed a 'genuine' Sani2C race by riding up Sani Pass the day before the official race started. |
Brett is currently training hard to get ready for Trans Portugal in May. The statistics for this event are scary,
Day 1 is over 140Km with something like 3700m of climbing and the longest day is over 165Km with more than 4000m of ascent!
Brett has recently moved across to a 29 inch Santa Cruz Tallboy full suspension mountain bike and is loving it.
