| Used Bike Pricing Guide |
| Firstly, BikeBay will advertise your bike at whatever price you request, and do its level best to achieve your price. However, if you hope to sell in a reasonable space of time, you should take heed of the pricing guide below. The value of a 2nd hand bike is not determined by what you paid, but rather by what you can buy new today. In particular, new one year out of date bikes through overseas mail order or local discounters. These bikes are usually discounted by about 30%. Also, bear in mind that used bike buyers are in general hunting for a bargain. |
| Therefore, the nearly new, (one year old or less) used bike price needs to be at least 20% better than the mail order or discounted new price to tempt a buyer away from a new purchase. That is why the selling price of a one year old bike needs to be 40% below the price of the bike when purchased. After the first year, road bikes depreciate by between 5% & 10% pa and mountain bikes by 10% to 15% pa. The price guide below shows the prices that you can expect to sell at, based on the original price you paid and the bikes age. Bear in mind that there are 4 sheets within the spreadsheet, ie RD Hi & Lo as well as MTB Hi & Lo. |
| As a general rule, fancy, lightweight specialist parts do not significantly enhance the value of a used bike. Therefore rather take these parts off and reinstall the original items and keep the exotic titanium or carbon fibre parts for your new bike |
